Men’s tennis world number one, Novak Djokovic has lost his opening match at the Monte Carlo Masters.

It was Djokovic’s first match since February and only his fourth this year.

The 34-year-old Serbian star had been forced to miss the Australian Open and many ATP Tour tournaments this year due to his COVID-19 vaccination status.

He bowed out to Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, who is ranked 46th in the world, in a three set match.

Djokovic is a two-time champion at Monte Carlo but conceded that it has been a difficult start to the year.

He says he is still reflecting on the Australian Open saga, and if something surfaces, he acknowledges it, and then moves on.
