Rishi Sunak is turning up the heat, as he battles Liz Truss for Britain’s top job

The former chancellor has launchd his strongest attack yet against his rival, slamming her economic policies and claiming her tax cuts will only lead to higher inflation.

Tax and spending has been the hot topic across this campaign period, with Sunak refusing to cut taxes immediately over concerns it would only worsen teh cost of living crisis.

It all follows a new poll which puts Truss well ahead of Sunak, 62 per cent to 38 per cent.

Ballot papers are expected to even out over the coming days as the two Conservatives embark on 12 hustings across the UK before the final result is announced on September 5.

With a general election not too far away, Sunak says he’s the only member who can defeat opposition leader Sir Keir Starmer.
