Singapore’s Prime Minister has revealed he is “cautiously optimistic” about the country’s 2022 reopening

Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has revealed that he is “cautiously optimistic” about the year ahead, as his country progressively reopens borders and resumes travel.

Speaking to journalists on a visit to Jurong Point on the day before Chinese New Year, PM Lee admitted that while some sectors like F&B and tourism are still facing issues, the country’s economy is on “an even keel” and is set to grow 3 to 5 per cent in 2022.

Lee said while the Omicron wave of COVID is an uncertainty, “it has gone up quickly (and) is coming back down quite fast” in the developed countries.

“Hopefully that means the economy can continue going without being disrupted too much,”

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister revealed that regionally, Singapore’s neighbours are “doing ok”
