An anti-coup protest in Sudan has turned deadly, with 14 shot dead by armed forces
Thousands of people have taken to the streets of Sudan, protesting against last month’s coup – but demonstrations have turned deadly, with authorities shooting dead at least 14 people.
Protests have been taking place across the nation, but the fatalities all in the Sudanese capital of Khartoum, raised the total anti-coup protest death toll to 38.
Protesters have marched through neighbourhoods urging the coup to end
Protesters were met with live rounds of bullets, fired by security forces.
Authorities cut off mobile phone communications and also dispersed tear gas into the crowd.
In a statement, the Central Committee of Sudanese Doctors stated that security forces “used live bullets heavily in different areas of the capital” and that there are “tens of gunshot injuries, some of them in serious condition”.
The CCSD also said security forces had arrested injured people inside Khartoum hospitals.
The people of Sudan continue to take to the streets demanding civilian rule
Those protesting against the coup took to the streets in defiance of a deadly crackdown by security forces that has already killed dozens of people since the military seized power in the nation last month.
Protesters are demanding the coup end, and request a full handover to civilian rule and for the coup leaders to be taken to court.
