Several people have been killed in the Afghan city of Asadabad

The people were attending an Independence Day rally and waving the Afghan flag when Taliban fighters fired on people waving the national flag.

It was unclear if the casualties came from the firing or from the stampede that it triggered.

It comes a day after three people were killed in a similar protest.

It follows an ongoing humanitarian crisis as world leaders and NGOs work to protect and uphold the rights and freedoms of Afghan citizens.

The United Nations says the Taliban has so far allowed their work to continue uninterrupted and without interference.
