Optometry in Australia is a highly bulk-billed profession, with 94.3% of optometry services being bulk-billed in the last quarter, according to the most recent quarterly Medicare statistics released by the Federal Government.

However, despite this high rate of bulk-billing, optometrists have reported that the costs associated with providing quality healthcare are increasing, and many Medicare items are insufficient to address these costs.
