There’s a feud growing between Scotland’s first minister and British lawmakers.
The British government has blocked a controversial Scottish bill designed to make it easier for people who wish to change their gender.
In London, ministers are concerned the draft law could conflict with current equality protections applying right across Great Britain.
This is the first time a Scottish law has been blocked in this way. The country’s First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon, has labelled the move a “full-frontal attack”.
Sturgeon has vowed to oppose the act, warning this veto could be the “first of many” if it succeeds.
The First Minister believes the current process one has to go through to legally change their gender in Scotland is both difficult and invasive.
It’s likely the Scottish government will challenge the ruling through a judicial review.
