‘Stop this war’ – Russian forces target Eastern Ukraine

Russian forces are continuing their attack on eastern Ukraine, leaders telling civilians to flee before it’s too late.

In a late night video address, Ukrainian President Zelensky says Moscow is targeting the whole of Europe with its aggression, adding it is essential for the security of all EU democracies to stop this war.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has also made a trip to Ukraine’s capital of Kyiv, using his visit to pledge further military aid and reaffirm Britain’s support for the war-torn nation.

The PM’s visit comes just days after at least 50 people were killed in an attack on a rail station in eastern Ukraine, with Zelensky calling it a war crime.

Washington has responded to a request for further military aid, providing “the weapons Ukraine needs” to defend itself against Russia.

Russian forces have so-far failed to take any major cities since launching their invasion on February 24, but there are fears they are gathering forces in the east for a major assault.

US national security adviser Jake Sullivan says his country is providing Ukraine with whatever it needs to prevent Russia from taking control of more cities or towns.
