ROLLERCOASTER NIGHTMARE- Investigations are underway after a rollercoaster at a popular Welsh theme park derailed mid-air, plunging a passenger to the ground.

Eyewitnesses say they heard distressed screams, as they watched the tail end of the coaster slide off its tracks and the safety bar open.

Emergency services rushed to the scene at Oakwood Theme Park to treat the male victim, who was lying face down, before airlifting him to hospital.

Passengers on the front of the roller coaster recall shouting for help and urging staff to stop the ride.

Moments later, the ride came to a grinding halt and passengers climbed off with assistance from the ground.

The popular ride reaches up to 35 kilometres per hour and has been at the park for nearly 30 years.
