House Republicans summoned a number of Twitter executives to answer accusations the social media platform has tried to silence voices on the right

But the outcome wasn’t quite what the GOP leaders were expecting.

During the hearing, new revelations were revealed about how the company failed to limit hate speech or material that could incite violence.

Those testifying even went so far as to say Twitter would alter ist own rules to avoid censoring such content.

The Oversight and Accountability Committee called the hearing to investigate a decision the company has previously admitted was a mistake: blocking a New York Post article about Hunter Biden, President Biden’s son, before the 2020 election.

But the session also quickly became a forum for Democrats to press concerns about the behaviour of Twitter.

Some have accused the social giant of playing a critical role in the January 6 attack on the Capitol.
