Renée Geyer dead at 69

The Australian music industry is in mourning today.

Renee Geyer has passed away at the age of 69.

The soul singer died from complications following hip surgery.

Mushroom Group has released a statement on behalf of the family, saying, “she was in no pain and died peacefully”.

During the surgery, it was also discovered Geyer had inoperable lung cancer.

Known for her husky tones, she is regarded as a leader in jazz, soul and R&B and a trailblazer in the contemporary music scene.

Inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame in 2005, Geyer was also the first woman to be awarded a place in the Music Victoria Hall of Fame.

The family is remembering their loved one as “cheeky and loyal”, noting, “her musical legacy speaks for itself”.
