Radioactive material from North Korea’s underground testing facility is reportedly leaking into water supplies across the nation

There are grave fears for tens of thousands of residents in North Korea and neighbouring South Korea, Japan and China who may be exposed to radioactive materials.

A human rights group based in Seoul believes an underground nuclear test site could be contaminating ground water which is flowing into a number of regions.

North Korea has secretly conducted several tests of nuclear weapons at the site between 2006 and 2017.

The study by the Transitional Justice Working Group says radioactive materials could be spreading across eight cities near the site.

More than 1 million North Koreans live in the area, and the groundwater is used frequently in their day-to-day lives, including for drinking.

Neighbouring South Korea, China and Japan may also be at risk due partly to agricultural and fisheries products smuggled in from the rogue nation. #trending #featured
