POSTPONED: Vote on a conflict resolution for Myanmar

The UN General Assembly has postponed a vote on a draft resolution on conflict in Myanmar.

The draft resolution was calling for “an immediate suspension of the direct and indirest supply, sale or transfer of all weapons and munitions” to Myanmar.

Diplomatic sources explained they did not receive the “support they expected”, and were seeking more time to consult… especially for south-east Asian nations.

The text was drafted at the request of Liechtenstein, with the support of 48 countries, including Britain, the European Union and the United States — but South Korea was the only Asian country that signed on.
