Pope Francis has plans to open up the Holy See, saying he wants more women in the Vatican’s top jobs

For the first time in history, the head of the Catholic Church revealed he wants women to the previously all-male committee tasked with electing bishops.

It follows the introduction of a new constitution for the Holy See’s central administration, which allows any baptised Catholic to be in charge of most departments.

In 2021, Pope Francis promoted a woman to the number two position of Vatican City, with the individual now the highest-ranking woman in the self-governing state.

Francis says he is pushing to ‘open up’ the Vatican a bit.
