Pope Francis has wrapped up his trip to South Sudan – the world’s youngest nation

Speaking to reporters after his visit, the Pope denounced the criminalisation of homosexuality.

Francis says such laws are both a sin and “an injustice”, adding homosexuals are children of God and should be welcomed by their churches.

These comments have been backed by the Archbishop of Canterbury and the Moderator of the Church of Scotland.

All three individuals travelled to South Sudan, jointly calling for peace in the war-torn country.

It is the first time the leaders of the three traditions have come together for such a journey in 500 years.

During a service, Francis wove his homily around the themes of reconciliation and mutual forgiveness for past wrongs.
