The world mourns the passing of legendary Irish singer Sinead O’Connor, who died at the age of 56 in her new penthouse in Herne Hill, South London.

The police confirmed that her death is not considered suspicious. Despite the absence of a medical cause, an autopsy is planned, and results are expected in several weeks.

O’Connor, known for her iconic hit “Nothing Compares 2 U” in 1990, had been vocal about her struggles with mental health and her battles with the Catholic faith.

Her recent video on social media showed her unpacking in her new apartment and expressing a glimmer of happiness after the tragic loss of her son Shane in January 2022.

Numerous tributes poured in from fellow artists and fans alike, with Russell Crowe describing her as a hero and remembering their meeting in Dublin.

Career controversy

However, controversies marked O’Connor’s career, such as the time when she tore up a picture of Pope John Paul II on live television, which caused widespread protests in the US.

Throughout her life, O’Connor remained true to her beliefs and was a fierce advocate for important issues.

Her unique voice, combined with her outspoken nature and androgynous style, challenged archaic notions of femininity and sexuality in the music industry.

O’Connor’s passing has left an indelible mark on the music world, and her soulful voice and profound messages will continue to inspire generations to come.
