Two pilots have been suspended from Africa’s largest airline after falling asleep mid-flight and missing the landing

The Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737-800 was cruising from Sudan to Ethiopia, on autopilot, when it continued flying past the destination.

Despite urgent calls from air traffic control, the pilots remained asleep until an alarm was triggered in the cockpit.

However, unbeknown to passengers, the pilots safely landed the plane 25 minutes later.

The pilots have been stood down, while investigations take place.

Some reports suggest the pilots may have been overworked, with exhaustion playing a big part.
