The man who murdered 17 students and staff at a Florida High School has been sentenced to life in prison

Nikolas Cruz, who is known as the Parkland School Shooter, was spared the death penalty last month.

He chose life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Cruz spent hours listening to anguished families, who lost their loved ones in one of the worst mass shootings in U.S. history.

Cruz himself spoke briefly at the hearing, answering the judge’s questions about whether he understood the proceedings.

Cruz’s defence lawyers were criticised by the victim’s’ families. But they maintain he has a constitutional right to legal representation.

That didn’t stop some of the families from unleashing at Cruz in the court room.
