Oxygen arrives in India as the nation marks grim COVID milestone

As the Covid crisis continues to worsen in India, the country has reached another grim milestone – 3,700 deaths in 24 hours.

Although the number of new cases dipped slightly, this is India’s highest daily death toll since the pandemic began.

Authorities confirmed almost 393,000 new infections, which brings the country’s total confirmed cases to 19.56 million.

Ten Indian states and territories have enacted restrictions, but the Federal government is hesitant to declare a national lockdown.

This comes as the country’s COVID-19 task force reportedly advised leaders to impose nationwide restrictions.

Meanwhile, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has confirmed Britain will send 1,000 ventilators to the India, to support the nations soaring case numbers.

The ventilators will play a vital part of providing life-saving equipment, and will help “the most severely affected”
