In Short:
– OpenAI launched a $100 ChatGPT Pro subscription for increased Codex usage limits aimed at demanding tasks.
– The Pro tier competes with Anthropic’s successful Claude Code subscription model, which has generated substantial revenue.

OpenAI has introduced ChatGPT Pro, a subscription tier costing $100 per month that increases usage limits for Codex, its AI coding assistant. This launch is part of OpenAI’s strategy to rival Anthropic’s Claude Code, which has gained significant traction recently.

OpenAI enhances offerings

The $100 Pro tier provides five times the Codex usage compared to the $20 Plus subscription and is suggested for more intensive tasks.

OpenAI stated that the Plus plan remains optimal for regular usage at $20, while the Pro level targets users with heavier demands.

Now, there are five tiers for ChatGPT subscriptions: Free, Go, Plus, and two Pro levels, including an existing $200/month option.

Anthropic’s Claude Code also employs a tiered subscription model with four levels, beginning with a Free option and reaching $200/month for more extensive use.

Claude Code’s popularity has resulted in significant revenue, with the coding assistant generating over $2.5 billion as of February, reflecting a 100% increase since early 2026.

OpenAI initially launched Codex in April and expanded its availability by October.

CEO Sam Altman reported on X that Codex now boasts three million weekly users and confirmed that usage limits would reset for every additional million users, aiming for a goal of 10 million.
