The Korean Central News Agency reported that the country’s Academy of Defence Science conducted evaluations from Monday to Wednesday.
A highlight was the Hwasong-11Ka missile equipped with a cluster munitions warhead, which KCNA claimed can devastate an area of 6.5 to 7 hectares.
Tests aimed to assess the “combat applicability and destructive capability” of such munitions in ballistic missile warheads.
North Korea also evaluated an electromagnetic weapon system and “carbon fiber decoy bombs,” described as “special assets.”
The military conducted trials with a mobile short-range anti-aircraft missile system.
Details on the number of ballistic missiles fired were not disclosed, potentially breaching United Nations sanctions.
South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff detected multiple short-range ballistic missiles launched from the Wonsan area on Wednesday morning.
The missiles flew approximately 240 kilometers before landing in the East Sea.
Later that day, another missile launched from the same location successfully traveled over 700 kilometers.
The day prior, an unidentified projectile launched from Pyongyang appeared to have failed shortly after takeoff.
Japan’s Coast Guard confirmed an object suspected to be a ballistic missile was launched but did not enter Japanese territory.
