New Zealand is opening up next year, to fully vaxxed visitors

New Zealand will keep its borders closed to most international travellers for a further five months, but plans to reopen to fully vaccinated people from next year.

The Government has unveiled new plans to reopen to foreign travellers from April 30, next year.

The nation has enforced some of the tightest pandemic restrictions among OECD nations, which has helped its economy to bounce back faster.

But an outbreak of the highly contagious Delta variant earlier this year has forced a shift in strategy.

Now, Auckland is gradually opening up as vaccinated rates climb.

It comes as New Zealand’s Central Bank raises its interest rates for the second time in two months.

It’s signalled that it’ll need to tighten policy quicker than previously expected to contain inflation.
