New Zealand eases COVID-19 restrictions for most of the nation

New Zealand is preparing to ease COVID-19 restrictions in all of the country except for Auckland

All of New Zealand besides Auckland is on track to move to level 2 restrictions at midnight on Tuesday.

Auckland however will stay at level 4 until at least next Tuesday.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern confirmed a new introduction to face coverings and two metre physical distancing rules which will apply to level 2 restrictions for people inside facilities like hospitality and event venues.

Those venues will have a 50 people limit indoors while outdoor spaces can have up to 100 people.

“We are making progress but there are some critical challenges ahead. We continue to see persistent cases connected to the outbreak,”

Ardern said

COVID infections in NZ have been falling since late last week with 20 cases announced on both Saturday and Sunday.
