Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny has now been in jail for two years

“Our miserable, exhausted Motherland needs to be saved.”

They’re the words of jailed Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny, posted to Twitter by his lawyers two years after his arrest.

Now, a new campaign has been launched to free the outspoken Russian opposition leader, who has devoted his life to shaking up the institution.

The arrest occurred as Navalny returned to Russia from Germany, where he was being treated for poisoning by a deadly nerve agent.

Many say this was a Russian state assassination attempt – but the Kremlin denies any involvement.

Navalny is one of just a few opposition voices still campaigning in Russia.

He originally won over supporters for exposing how the country’s ruling class live lavish lifestyles at the expense of the state. #trending #featured
