The President argues it has helped to boost tourism numbers
El Salvador President Nayib Bukele has spoken about the benefits of his nation using Bitcoin as a legal tender.
The Central American nation legalised the tender over 18 months ago, and has experienced the volatile highs and lows of the digital token.
Speaking to Tucker Carlson, the president argued using the crypto currency had seen a spike in tourism and conferences.
“Being the only nation in the world that has Bitcoin as legal tender gives us an advantage in the new economic system,” Bukele revealed.
“We have increased tourism by 95 per cent.
“There are a lot of Bitcoiners that want to go to the only country where Bitcoin is legal tender.”
