Senator Joe Manchin is insisting that he cannot support the new bill, saying the price tag is too large and the White House has rushed it through due process.

This is an issue for the Democratic party, given that the US Senate is divided 50/50, meaning every vote counts.

It follows Biden’s Chief of Staff saying he believed Manchin was in full support of the bill… and the reconciliation package was “full speed ahead”.

But Manchin appeared on two political talk shows over the weekend, saying “If I can’t go home and explain the bill, I can’t vote for it”.

Meanwhile, prominent Democratic senator Bernie Sanders says American taxpayers can afford the bill, and Manchin’s lack of support is “not acceptable”.
