The truck driver at the centre of the Texas migrant tragedy was allegedly on meth when police intercepted him

San Antonio authorities found the Texas native hiding in brush near the abandoned trailer on Monday.

The incident is the worst trafficking incident in U.S. history, with 53 people losing their lives.

The 45-year-old is due to appear in court shortly and faces a maximum sentence of life in prison or possibly the death penalty if convicted.

Officials describe finding the truck’s rear door ajar… with bodies stacked inside, many hot to the touch.
