Meta targets scammers with facial recognition

Published

Meta is rolling out a new facial recognition system to tackle scam ads on Facebook and Instagram.

The tech will compare faces in ads to public figures’ profile photos, blocking fraudulent content if there’s a match. This comes three years after Meta scrapped its previous system, with a promise to delete all facial data after use. Early results show success, and public figures can opt-out at any time. Meta is also working to help users recover lost accounts through video selfies for verification.
