A Moscow court has found Meta Platforms guilty of “extremist activity”

Russian state prosecutors filed a lawsuit to ban Meta’s activities in Russia, to begin immediately

Russia had already blocked Facebook and Instagram, but the Russian court reportedly says the decision will not affect WhatsApp. 

According to Reuters, WhatsApp is exempt from the court’s decision due to lack of spreading misinformation

Facebook and Instagram were banned earlier this month for labelling and blocking Russia state media.

A Russian tele-co regulator says the social network violated “the human rights” and “freedoms” of Russians by restricting its media outlets. 

Meta didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
