Russian tennis star Daniil Medvedev is now facing obstacles in his bid to compete at Wimbledon later this year

The grand slam champion was mentioned during a UK Parliament select committee meeting on Tuesday, with the Sports Minister questioning Medvedev’s stance on the war in Ukraine.

Sports Minister Nigel Huddleston says he may need to be assured that the Russian Star does not support Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

He says “Absolutely nobody flying the flag for Russia should be allowed or enabled”.

Discussions are now being held between the minister and Wimbledon organisers.

The current rules do not exclude Russian players from competing in the men’s ATP and women’s WTA tour, but must do so as neutral athletes.

But Russia and Belarus is banned from team events including the Davis Cup and the Billie Jean King Cup in response to the war in Ukraine.

The tennis star has assured earlier this month… that his message remains the same and he wants peace in all of the world.
