French police clash with black-clad anarchists during May Day rallies

There’s been another round of violent protests in France.

Hundreds of thousands of angry citizens lined the streets over President Emmanuel Macron’s pension reforms.

At least 108 police officers have been injured in these latest clashes and 291 people have been arrested.

Most were peaceful but radical groups threw petrol bombs and fireworks, forcing police to respond with tear gas and water cannons.

It is not clear how many protesters have been injured.

Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne says the violence is “unacceptable” while also praising the “responsible mobilisation and commitment” of demonstrators in numerous cities.
