MAUI WILDFIRE: Microsoft is using ‘AI’ to aid in search and recovery efforts

Officials are warning that the number of fatalities will likely rise as workers continue to search the charred ruins after a wildfire tore through a historic town on the Hawaiian island of Maui.

 
More than half of the 2,800 buildings have been damaged by the blaze that devastated the area—and completely destroyed 1,200 structures.

To aid in the response effort, Microsoft is analyzing satellite images from Planet using artificial intelligence to provide organizations like the American Red Cross with vital maps.
