A man has reportedly shot a six-year-old neighbour and her parents after a basketball rolled into his yard.

A manhunt is underway near Charlotte, North Carolina, for Robert Singletary.

This all happened on Tuesday when a basketball rolled into his yard. Singletary yelled at the kids who went to retrieve it.

One of the kids told his father, who then went to the neighbour to talk to him.

The 24-year-old then walked inside, came out with a gun and opened fire, wounding a six-year-old girl in the cheek and her parents.

The girl’s mother told CNN they had nothing to do with the basketball game; the family was outside grilling and her daughter was riding her bike.

This follows a few incidents this week where young people were shot for blunders.

Two teen cheerleaders mistakenly approaching someone else’s vehicle in Texas; a 16-year-old who rang the wrong doorbell in Kansas City; and a 20-year-old who turned into the wrong New York driveway.
