French President Emmanuel Macron is turning down resignation offers from the French Prime Minister

French Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne is believed to have offered her resignation to President Emmanuel Macron in the wake of the ruling party losing its majority.

But Macron, who serves as the French head of state, has reportedly shut down those offers.

The Élysée Palace says French President Macron is seeking “constructive solutions” as talks get underway with the nation’s opposition.

It comes as doubt hangs over the leader’s ability to rule decisively after his camp lost its parliamentary majority at the weekend’s elections.

Macron’s centrist grouping is under pressure to secure support from rivals to salvage his reform agenda. If it fails, France could face a long spell of political paralysis.

The leader is expected to invite all political parties to form a group in the new parliament for talks on Tuesday.
