German airline Lufthansa is looking to buy a 40 percent stake in Italian carrier ITA Airways
According to ticker NEWS affiliate, Reuters, this would see the Cologne-headquartered airline acquire a 40% stake in the carrier that has taken over from Alitalia as Italy’s national airline.
The deal hasn’t yet been finalised but reports say the price of the stake is still under negotiation. However, by next week we could see an announcement regarding a partnership between the German and Italian flag carriers.
A Lufthansa spokesperson declined to comment, but reiterated an earlier statement that the German carrier was open to the possibility of a partnership with ITA.
The ongoing coronavirus pandemic has proved a huge challenge for airlines, and ITA’s launch came at a difficult time, taking to the skies in October 2021.
