Thousands of Middle East flights are being suspended by airlines following attacks in Iran.

These cancellations affect destinations like Tel Aviv, Doha and Dubai as airspace has been closed.

Estimates suggest at least 14,000 departures and arrivals are impacted.

Etihad Airways has suspended all flights departing or arriving in Abu Dhabi until Sunday.  The airline will contact affected passengers directly and provide support with rebooking and hotel accommodation where needed.

Etihad emphasises the fluid nature of the situation and that further adjustments may be necessary.  They maintain close coordination with authorities and will resume normal operations as conditions improve.  Safety remains their top priority and they apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Other airlines like Qatar Airways, Emirates Airlines, Air India, Lufthansa Group, United Airlines, Delta Air Lines and American Airlines have also suspended or significantly reduced their services in the region.  The duration of these suspensions varies between the carriers.

Lufthansa Group has suspended flights to Israel, Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq and Tehran until March 7. Delta’s Tel Aviv service will be cancelled through at least Sunday.

Due to security concerns, some flights to Doha and Dubai have been rerouted back to their origin airports or diverted to European airports.

State TV reports the death toll in Iran has risen to over 200.

The Associated Press cited Iranian state TV, reporting more than 200 people have been killed across the country following strikes by the US and Israel.

Iran’s Red Crescent spokesperson confirmed 747 people are injured and the strikes have hit 24 out of Iran’s 31 provinces.

It’s unclear how many of the casualties are civilian.

The US military reported no American casualties and minimal damage from hundreds of Iranian missile and drone attacks.

Israeli military spokesman Avichay Adraee instructed Iranians to avoid a red-marked site in Isfahan, a city of over two million people.  He warned on social media platform X that Israel would strike military infrastructure in the area shortly.

Adraee has issued similar evacuation notices during the ongoing conflict in Gaza and Lebanon before Israeli airstrikes.
