Argentina captain Lionel Messi has been invited to etch his footprints at a Brazilian football stadium, eternalising himself in the Hall of Fame.

Messi helped the South American nation to claim their third World Cup earlier in the week, after defeating France 4-2 on penalties in the Final.

Messi also won the 2021 Copa America at the famous Maracana stadium.

“Messi has already demonstrated his importance on and off the pitch. He is a player who has been at the highest level in the history of football for years. And nothing could be more fitting,” a statement released by the Argentina FA read.

This all comes on the back of Messi breaking another record – this time on social media.

The photo he posted, lifting the World Cup trophy, has become the most-liked image on Instagram, with 65 million accounts pressing the love heart icon.
