Defence are pleading to a Florida jury to spare the life of the Parkland mass shooter

Nikolas Cruz killed 17 people in the Parkland mass shooting, on February 14, 2018. Now, his defence are pleading for a Florida jury to save him from the death penalty.

Melisa McNeil, Cruz’s leading Attorney claims her client suffered fetal brain damage, caused by alcohol and drug abuse.

The defence claims this alleged brain damage lead to life-long mental health disorders.

“Because of that, his brain was irretrievably broken, through no fault of his own.”

Cruz’s half sister, Danielle Woodward confirmed the reports of fetal abuse during her testimony. She spoke about their mother drinking heavily and using drugs while pregnant with Cruz.

However, prosecutors have slammed the claims saying Cruz deserves death for his “goal-directed, planned, systematic murder.”

Now, the 12 jurors must decide unanimously if Cruz will receive life in prison or the death penalty.
