Largest HK pro-democracy party will not contest

Hong Kong’s biggest pro-democracy party says it will not contest the city-state’s next legislature elections

This comes as none of the group’s members met the application deadline of October 11.

Party members have been in heated discussions over the past several months on whether or not they should continue with Hong Kong’s political process.

Meanwhile, this latest announcement by the pro-democracy party is a big blow for Hong Kong’s government that continues to say that the city remains “politically diverse”.

Over the past few months, many of Hong Kong’s democracy-based parties have either disbanded or had their leaders and members arrested and prosecuted.

This all follows Beijing imposing strict “patriots only” regulations on the upcoming elections… ensuring anyone standing for public office is vetted for national security risks.
