Former Brazil President Jair Bolsonaro has applied for a six-month tourist visa to stay in the U.S.

Bolsonaro’s lawyer, Felipe Alexandre, says the U.S. received the application and the 67-year-old will remain in the country while it is pending.

“He would like to take some time off, clear his head, and enjoy being a tourist in the United States for a few months before deciding what his next step will be,” Alexandre revealed.

Alexandre added that the length of the trip will depend on Bolsonaro’s plans and their strategy.

The State Department stated that visa records are confidential and cannot discuss individual cases.
