Melbourne overlooked by Qantas as doubts mount over Project Sunrise amid shift to smaller aircraft and emerging travel trends
Flight Hacks editor-in-chief Tom Goward says Melbourne continues to be overlooked by Qantas as doubts grow over whether Project Sunrise will ever launch from the city.
While Sydney prepares for non-stop flights to London and New York, Melbourne could lose more premium international capacity as Qantas replaces some A380 services with smaller Dreamliners.
Goward says some travellers already refer to the airline as “Sydney International Airways” — but argues Qantas will ultimately send its aircraft wherever the strongest profits can be made.
