At least 50 people are dead as a fire tears through a COVID isolation ward at an Iraqi hospital
Search operations are underway at the Al-Hussain Hospital, where the death toll is expected to rise
Sixteen people have been rescued from the burning building.
A hospital spokesperson says “raging fires have trapped many patients inside the coronavirus ward and rescue teams are struggling to reach them.”
Initial police reports suggest the fire was caused by an oxygen tank explosion inside the COVID-19 ward.
Iraq has reported over 1.4 million cases of coronavirus, and over 17,000 deaths.
