Iran protests leave at least 41 dead as women around the world demand action

Iran protests leave at least 41 dead, with participants calling for justice following the death of Mahsa Amini.

People are taking to streets in defiance of the Islamic Republic force and its conservative values.

Those on the ground say the demonstrations are becoming increasingly violent. Thousands of women are cutting their hair and chanting “death to the dictator”.

Suspicion immediately circulated following Amini’s death in police custody, with her family claiming authorities killed her.

The 22-year-old had been arrested for not wearing her hijab properly.

Recently, forces have been targeting women who don’t oblige by their strict social Islamic rules.

U.S. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan says that negotiating with Iran over the nuclear issue will not stop Washington from denouncing the brutal repression of Iranians.

“We’re talking about diplomacy to prevent Iran from ever getting a nuclear weapon. If we can succeed in that effort, and we are determined to succeed in that effort, the world, America and our allies will be safer,” Sullivan said.

“And that will not stop us in any way from pushing back and speaking out on Iran’s brutal repression of its citizens and its women. We can and will do both'” he added.

Around the world, thousands are also taking to social media to condemn the brutality in Iran.
