Prince Harry and Megan Markle dedicate Invictus Games to Ukraine

Prince Harry and his wife Megan Markle have officially opened the 2022 Invictus Games, using their opening addresses to each honour the ongoing war in Ukraine

Held in The Hague, the Ukrainian team are present at the Games, given special permission by their President Zelensky to compete.

Calling him her “incredible husband”, Megan introduced Harry as the “founder of the Invictus Games, and the father to Archie and Lili”.

Megan added that she understands how difficult it has been for any athlete to be present at the Games, particularly those from Ukraine.

The Invictus Games is an international sporting event for wounded, injured and sick servicemen and women.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex met with a number of competitors at the athletics competition, including Team United Kingdom.

Before arriving at The Hague in the the Netherlands, Harry and Meghan also stopped off in Britain to visit the Queen at Windsor castle.

It is the first time the pair have traveled to this region together since 2020.
