Intel will invest 30 billion Malaysian Ringgits to build a new chip-packaging and testing factory in Malaysia

The company’s chief executive says it’ll expand production in the country following a global shortage of semiconductors.

The Malaysian Government says the factory will create over 4,000 Intel jobs, and more than 5,000 construction jobs in the country.

The global shortage of semiconductor chips has seen carmakers cut production and delays in smartphone deliveries.

Malaysia’s chip assembly industry accounts for more than a tenth of a global trade worth more than $20 billion USD.

The new facility is expected to begin production in 2024.
