Human remains unearthed by Welsh builders

Builders got more than they bargained for when they discovered hundreds of dead bodies on their job site

A group of Welsh builders were working at the site of a former department store when they made grim a discovery in Wales.

Over 300 mass graves were counted when archaeologists arrived at the scene.

The builders were digging up the former site of Ocky White, which closed in 2013 at the time.

They were digging the foundations of a new bar as part of a multi-million dollar redevelopment.

Historians believe the skeletons may date back 600 years.

The site is believed to be an old monastery, which was founded by a Dominican order of monks.

However, other theories suggest the site could be linked to Welsh rebels during the war of independence in 1405.

The Dyfed Archaeological Trust is one of the four Welsh Archaeological Trusts, who said they are looking forward to doing more research.

“The team at Hfordwest have found what we think is a squashed pattern dish, together with a squashed chalice underneath.”

“They were buried within the hands of a person, possibly a VIP,” they said.

The bones are expected to be analysed before being reburied at a nearby ground.
