The House select committee tasked with investigating the January 6 capitol riots has issued subpoenas to four social media giants

Alphabet, Meta, Reddit, and Twitter have all been called to appear before the panel and give details on their links to the insurrection.

In a tweet, the committee says the subpoenas have been issued as a result of “inadequate responses” and it will demand full records be released.

The committee’s chairman is determined to ensure the investigation is not delayed any further.

The chairman says the two key questions that remain are… “how the spread of misinformation and violent extremism contributed to the violent attack” and “what steps — if any — social media companies took to prevent their platforms from being breeding grounds to radicalising people to violence”.
