Google is set to pay U.S. $118 million to settle a gender discrimination lawsuit
Three women accusing Google of underpaying female workers have settled with the tech giant.
The women believe the company was part of a wage gap of around U.S. $17,000 for their colleagues.
They allege Google locks women into lower careers, which leads to less pay and lower bonuses.
Over 18,000 women have taken the pledge to see gender parity at the company.
But after nearly five years of litigation, it is understood both sides agreed to a resolution.
As part of the decision, Google must appoint an ‘independent labor economist’ to oversee its hiring practices and pay equity studies.
Google says it is “absolutely committed to paying, hiring and levelling all employees fairly and equally”.
Riot Games and Apple are among other tech companies who have faced gender pay disputes.
