A German media outlet has officially employed the Russian journalist turned protestor who held an anti-war sign up during a live broadcast.

The journalist will work as a correspondent for the company that owns die welt newspaper, reporting from both Ukraine and Russia.

Just last month, the she made global headlines after storming onto the set of Channel One’s news broadcast, holding an anti-war sign.

Following the incident, the 43-year-old was arrested and fined by a Russian court, as concern grew for her safety.

As a freelance correspondent for die welt, she will write for the flagship newspaper while also appearing as a contributor on the TV news channel it operates.

The protestor says her new employer “stands for what is being defended by the courageous people on the ground in Ukraine right now, for freedom”.

Die welt Group’s editor-in-chief believes the on-air protest “defended the most important journalistic ethics – despite the threat of state repression”, adding he is excited to be working with her.
