Disgraced former pop star Gary Glitter has been recalled to prison after breaching his licence conditions.

The singer was released in February after serving half of his 16-year jail term for sexually abusing three schoolgirls.

After being released from prison, Glitter was subject to licence conditions including monitoring and a GPS tag.

The 79-year-old was jailed in 2015 for attempted rape, four counts of indecent assault and one of having sex with a girl under the age of 13.

The Probation Service says protecting the public is the “number one priority”, adding: “That’s why tough licence conditions [are set]” and when offenders breach them, they are returned to custody without hesitation.

Glitter was one of the biggest pop stars of the 1970s.
